Le Pirate Gili Meno Adults Only Resort: My Honest Review

Accommodation 🏡

Le Pirate offers 4 accommodation types for guests, all of which are beach-themed huts or cabins.

Each room has an air conditioning unit, a safety box, and a hammock. All rooms besides the Bunk have a double bed and are set up for 2 guests.

• The Sweet – The largest room type offered at Le Pirate. It is a stand-alone cabin with a wrap-around verandah. This is the room type we stayed in. It is the most expensive room type.

• The Beach Box – Same as ‘The Sweet’ but without the wrap-around verandah. It is a stand-alone cabin and just has an outdoor space at the front.

• The Junior Beach Box – Same as ‘The Beach Box’ but all of these cabins are linked together in a terrace. This is the cheapest room type.

• The Bunk – The bunk is the same as the Junior Beach Box in that they are all linked together in a terrace, but the beds are configured as a single bed and a set of bunk beds, enough for 3 guests.

Room Size

The room sizes are all 10 m² which is pretty small in our opinion.

The bed takes up almost the whole room, so that does not leave any space for luggage.

You need to store items under the bed (a basket is provided, but it is quite small), or on the small hanging rail and single shelf provided. There is also a bedside table next to each side of the bed.

The Sweet has the largest square footage at 30m² for the room, which is made up mostly by the wrap-around verandah at 12m². All other rooms have a 4.5m² terrace, making the total room size 20.5m².

Having the larger terrace was a nice addition, as we used the space mostly to store our snorkelling gear and dry our swimsuits and towels. There are seat cushions on each terrace to sit and relax outside, and we also had a small table with 2 chairs.

The bathrooms are larger in The Sweet at 8 m², and 6 m² in all other room types.

Room Comfort

Our Sweet cabin was very clean, and the housekeeping team had done a nice job.

I found the bed to be very comfortable. It was on the firmer side, which I prefer to a softer mattress. The sheets were clean and crisp white.

The air conditioning worked well, and we were comfortable with the temperature.

The windows and doors do open in the room, but we kept them closed because there were no insect screens.

The room was very simple but adequate for our needs for the 3 nights we stayed. Most of the time, we were out enjoying the island, swimming, eating/drinking and therefore spent minimal time in the room unless we were sleeping/showering.

We enjoyed sitting and relaxing on our outdoor verandah. We didn’t use the hammock though because it looked very flimsy and not secure, so we didn’t trust it to hold our body weight!

A bottle of drinking water with glasses is provided in the room, and there is a free water refill in the restaurant that is always available.

Two bath towels and two pool towels were provided for our stay.

No housekeeping is provided as standard at Le Pirate, but the staff informed us that if we wanted the room to be cleaned just needed to let the reception desk know, and they would arrange it. We didn’t ask for this throughout our stay, but the room certainly could have used it by day 3! The only thing we asked for was some extra towels, which were promptly provided.

Areas For Improvement

One improvement Le Pirate could make to the room was to install blackout curtains. There were no blackout curtains, and there was quite a lot of light entering our room at night. I would suggest bringing an eye mask if you need absolute darkness to sleep, as I do!

Ear plugs are also handy due to noise, as the cabins are not soundproofed and there can be a lot of noise travelling from the local Sasak Cafe at night.

There are no other facilities in the room, such as a fridge or kettle. It would have been handy to have these amenities, but I suppose the resort is expecting guests to use the bar and restaurant for drinks and snacks. However, the resort does not provide any room service, but guests can take food and drink items back to their room themselves.

Another thing to note is that the room key provides the electricity to the room, like many hotels. Unfortunately, this means that items will not be charging in the room and the air conditioning will not be working once you leave with the key. This can be an inconvenience as you need to be at the room to have the electricity on.

Outdoor Bathroom

Each room has an outdoor private bathroom with a shower, toilet and sink.

Yep, even the toilet is outside! But it is covered under a small roof just in case it is raining.

The shower, however, is exposed to the elements! It makes for lovely viewing at night when you can shower under the stars.

The water was always wonderfully hot and the temperature easy to control. The shower head was removable too, which I like.

Real cacti are decorating the bathroom, which was a little disconcerting, especially in the shower space!

A small mirror and shelf was above the sink but there was no other space to store bathroom items.

Despite being outside, I didn’t feel exposed or like anyone would see me in the bathroom, as the wall was high enough. But for some people, it could be uncomfortable to use the bathroom outside.

There are hooks on the back of the door, but additional towel hanging space and storage would improve the bathroom.

The outdoor bathroom floor got very dirty so we would shower it down, but it didn’t have a drainage hole so relied on the warm air temperature to dry. An improved design or regular housekeeping as standard would help this issue.

Aesthetics

I loved the vibe of Le Pirate! The design of the resort was well thought out. The cabins looked so cute, painted in a freshing white with turquoise accents. Everything appeared very crisp and clean with regards to the room and the overall grounds.

I felt very relaxed throughout our stay which is exactly what we were looking for from our trip to Gili Meno!

Our room was at the back of the resort (which we requested upon check-in). It is a quieter area and overlooks the guest-only outdoor pool. There were beautiful flowering bushes, palm trees and other plants surrounding our cabin.

Grounds 🌴

The grounds of Le Pirate are very nicely maintained and manicured. There are gardens with plenty of flowering plants, trees and bushes between the rooms, and stepping stone paths throughout the lawns.

The grounds are quite small, but they provide a nice separation between the cabins and offer more privacy.

One area for improvement would be maintenance and cleaning on the pools – more on that next!

Food & Drink At Le Pirate Beach Club 🍽️

Le Pirate has a nice restaurant beside the pool area. The seating is covered, and the vibe is comfortable and warm.

There is also a beach bar located on the beach at the front of the property with cushion seating in the sand, and hammocks in the trees.

The restaurant and beach bar are open to guests and the general public. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, along with drinks and snacks, open 7:30 am to 10 pm.

No discounts are provided for guests! (Prices are the same for guests/general public).

There is also a beach bar providing drinks and snacks to enjoy right on the beach.

From 4:30-6:30 pm (perfect for sunset), they do a happy hour with cocktails on special plus a 4-can Bintang Beer which comes in a cute mini cool box!

Breakfast

We booked directly with Le Pirate via their website, meaning breakfast was included with our stay. If you book via Booking, breakfast can be added to your stay for an additional cost. You can also opt to have breakfast as you go if you prefer. The breakfast menu has options from 60K to 115K.

Each morning we could choose an item from the breakfast menu, along with one hot drink and a fruit juice.

The breakfast also included a small fruit plate with sliced pineapple, papaya and watermelon.

I thought that the options on the breakfast menu were great, and there was a lot of choice, so I could have a different breakfast each day of my stay.

The portions were good, but the addition of the fruit plate was essential; otherwise, the menu item alone would not have been enough.

Everything I had for breakfast tasted great, and I enjoyed it every morning. I tried the breakfast wrap, cooked breakfast and the fruit and yoghurt granola bowl. For juice, the options were watermelon, lemon and orange. I tried the watermelon and the orange (I preferred the watermelon!).

One improvement Le Pirate could make for breakfast is to include a second hot drink as part of the package. One coffee is never enough, and so we would always order a second one. But the second coffee was always charged extra at around 40K IDR per coffee.

Dinner

During our 3-night stay at Le Pirate, we opted to have dinner at the resort for one of the nights.

The food was great and I enjoyed the clean and comfortable atmosphere of the restaurant.

The menu is asian and western fusion, and they only offer a few local dishes. We prefer to choose the local dishes when we are travelling as it gives us a chance to try new foods.

That evening Fiachra was in the mood for steak served with fries ($180K). It was tasty, but the portion was small. The next evening we dined at Bask, and even though the prices were twice as much, the portion and quality of the steak there was well worth the additional cost. So if you fancy a steak, maybe save that for Bask!

I had the tuna with urap (local vegetables mixed with coconut and Balinese spices) ($120K). I thought it was delicious and the portion size was good. For dessert, we shared the strawberry cheesecake crumble (65K).

As far as options on Gili Meno go, Le Pirate is one of the better choices. All the food we had at the restaurant was good quality. The prices are mid-range (a little more expensive for a backpacker budget, but for us it is an affordable luxury).

Staff & Service At Le Pirate Resort 🏴‍☠️

The staff at Le Pirate were always so friendly, and I was impressed by their efforts and dedication to providing excellent customer service. The wait staff in particular were always trying their best, and I applaud them for the work they were doing.

That being said, at times the service was a little slow. For example, at breakfast we often had to wait a very long time for our coffees to arrive, so often we had already finished our juice, fruit plate and hot breakfast order before the coffees came!

Occasionally there were mix-ups with the orders! However, once these issues were pointed out, they were quickly addressed and corrected.

During our 3-night stay, it did seem to be the same group of staff working from open to close each day. I had a chat with a couple of the staff, and they told me they live on-site and they were working every day of the week on split shifts, starting with breakfast service and finishing at close each night, with a couple of hours’ break to rest during the middle of the day. With a schedule like that, these staff must be exhausted, so I was not surprised that they were making mistakes!

Other Amenities At Le Pirate Gili Meno 🤿

Le Pirate offers guests additional amenities and services such as nightly events, tour and activity bookings, and equipment rentals.

Each evening the resort either hosts a free beach bonfire or a movie night on the beach. The schedule seemed to alternate the bonfire and movie night, so if you are staying at least 2 nights, you will be able to experience both. I thought this was a really cute addition to the experience, and it provided guests with something relaxing and fun to do if they wanted to spend the evening at the resort.

Equipment rentals are also available, including snorkelling equipment and bikes.

We rented snorkelling equipment as part of our stay, and found the equipment to be good quality. It was a little more expensive than other options on the island, but we felt it was worth the cost due to the quality and ease of renting from the resort.

Le Pirate is located next to one of the best snorkelling spots on Gili Meno island, accessible from the beach in front of the property.

We did not use the bike here, as Gili Meno is a small island and easy to walk around. Many of the paths around the island are also sand, which is difficult to cycle on, so consider if it’s worth it for you before renting.

The reception desk can also organise tours for you, for example horse riding, massages on the beach, a romantic dinner setup on the beach, snorkelling boat tours and transport to other islands.

Adults Only Resort

Le Pirate Resort advertises itself as adults only and so it is perfectly suited for couples visiting Gili Meno that are looking for a calm and relaxing environment.

This is one of the main reasons we chose to stay at Le Pirate as we are a couple without children and we wanted a tranquil island experience.

I feel that Le Pirate does this well as children are not allowed in the ‘Beach Club’ (restaurant, pools and rooms areas).

However, outside guests with children are allowed in the Le Pirate beach area so you may encounter some kids at Le Pirate despite it being an ‘adult only’ resort. We didn’t see any children at the beach area during our visit but it is important to be aware of this in case this is one of the main reasons you are considering staying at Le Pirate.

Gili Meno is also known as ‘honeymoon island’ and is said to be ideal for couples and the quietest and smallest island of the three Gilis. Therefore you won’t find many families choosing to visit Gili Meno anyway.

Location On Gili Meno 🏖️

Le Pirate Gili Meno is located on the west side of the island right next to the beach!

The west side of Gili Meno is the best side of the island for snorkelling coral reefs and seeing turtles. Snorkelling directly from the beach in front of Le Pirate is one of the best snorkelling spots on the whole of Gili Meno! So if you like snorkelling and want easy access from the beach, Le Pirate is perfectly positioned for that!

The west of Gili Meno is also the best place to view the wonderful sunset each night on the island! At Le Pirate, cute lounger cushions are set up right on the beach for perfect viewing of the sunset every evening. We saw beautiful sunsets each night of our stay, viewing the sun dip behind Gili Trawangan and the volcano Mount Agung peaking behind it on Bali.

The west side of the island faces Gili Trawangan (Gili T) – the party island of the Gilis! We found that there is noise from Gili T at night that drifts across the sea, as well as the bright lights from the bars and clubs along the beach. This didn’t disturb our sleep due to the location of our room, but it is important to be mindful of incase you get a room closer to the beach.

On that note, there is a local bar on Gili Meno called Sasak Cafe just down the path from Le Pirate that plays loud music all day and all night! This noise would absolutely be a disturbance if you were accommodated in one of the ‘Sweets’ positioned close to the path.

Getting To Le Pirate Gili Meno Resort

We arrived on Gili Meno at the main harbour using the public slow boat. We walked to Le Pirate and it took us around 15-minutes. The path is paved and flat so very easy to walk on. We took only backpacks as our luggage so we were travelling light.

If you have more luggage or difficulty walking, you could arrange a cidomo (horse and cart) to take you to the accommodation. Le Pirate can assist with arranging this for you, or you can negotiate with a driver once you arrive on the island.

Private boat transfers to Gili Meno can also drop you on the beach directly in front of the resort.

Price

We paid 6,844,500 IDR for a 3-night stay at Le Pirate in August 2026 in a Sweet room with breakfast.

That is approx £286 GBP / $539 AUD / $386 USD, meaning our nightly stay cost was £95 GBP / $179 AUD / $128 USD.

For Indonesia, these prices are quite high, considering in Bali a decent double ensuite room in a hotel with a swimming pool and breakfast can cost around 700,000 IDR (£30 GBP / $55 AUD / $40 USD) per night.

However, for a stay in a resort on a paradisial tropical island, in a cute stand-alone hut, with a private bathroom, breakfast included, 3 swimming pools, located right on the beach… personally, I would say it is reasonable if you want affordable luxury.

For us, the cost was worth it for the experience we wanted to have in the Gili Islands.

Alternative Options On Gili Meno

There are definitely cheaper (and more expensive) options available on Gili Meno, for example The Rabbit Tree Hostel (Gili Meno’s only hostel) or Bask (luxury resort).

We walked around the whole island and got a glimpse of many of the other accommodation options. If you’re considering staying elsewhere, an alternative option that we thought looked good on Gili Meno that is in a similar price range to Le Pirate is Mahamaya Gili Meno. Located just north of Le Pirate, this resort is also on the beach! They offer suites and beach front villas, have a restaurant and bar and outdoor swimming pool. This resort is also next to the best snorkelling spot on Gili Meno where you can see coral and turtles! Next time we visit Gili Meno, I would consider giving this place a try if they had a better deal than Le Pirate.

Worthy Mention: Gili Meno’s Cats 🐈

Gili Meno has a lot of stray cats roaming around. There were a few cats that ‘found a home’ at Le Pirate and they spent time in the grounds and relaxing by the pools.

Visitors to Gili Meno are told not to feed the cats as that encourages them to stick around, but I think some of the guests at Le Pirate felt sorry for the cats and were feeding them.

One cat hanging around constantly meowed the whole time we were there. It didn’t bother us as we love cats, but if you don’t you might have found it pretty annoying!

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at Le Pirate on Gili Meno. For us, it was a perfect base for 3-nights to explore the island.

The resort is located on the west of the island on the beach, close to one of the best snorkelling spots and perfect for viewing the sunset each evening.

Our ‘Sweet’ room was on the smaller side, but it had almost everything we needed. There are a few improvements that could be made to the room, for example, the addition of a kettle, fridge, blackout curtains and more storage space.

I liked the atmosphere and the vibe of Le Pirate. The grounds and beach area were well maintained, but the swimming pools could have benefited from renovation and better upkeep.

The staff at Le Pirate were friendly and sincere, but they did seem overworked! Everything we had in the restaurant was delicious, but the service was a little slow at times.

We walked around the whole island and got a glimpse of many of the other accommodation options. After seeing what else is available, we were happy with our choice to stay at Le Pirate. It is definitely one of the better options on Gili Meno.

Le Pirate Gili Meno is an excellent choice for couples looking for affordable luxury in an adults-only resort in the Gili Islands. I’d happily stay there again! – Lauren x
